Hello,
I have a question on how to map specific materials in Carbon Alt Delete.
I am currently calculating the carbon footprint of a steel company. The company receives steel plates or tubes and they then cut it, bend it etc to make different metallic profiles. I am wondering if I used the correct datasets for primary materials as well as for liquid nitrogen mapping. In fact, the company uses enormous quantities of liquid nitrogen in the production processes and based on the mapping I did now, it leads to a very big CO2 impact for the scope 1 (fugitive emissions) while for this company I was expecting to see the impact mainly in the scope 3 via the purchase of metallic primary materials. Now I have about 50% scope 1 and 50 % scope 3. So I am wondering if I used the correct datasets.
Could you please have a look at the datasets I used below and let me know if these are the correct ones to use or if anybody has any better suggestion?
- Liquid nitrogen used in production process (they buy the liquid nitrogen from a supplier) : Ecoinvent - market for nitrogen, liquid – Europe – mapped as a fugitive emission
- Aluminium sheets/tubes bought as is from suppliers : Ecoinvent - Alu: market for casting, aluminium, lost-wax – Global – mapped in purchased goods and services
- Steel sheets/tubes bought as is from suppliers: Ecoinvent - Steel: market for steel, unalloyed - Global – mapped in purchased goods and services
- Stainless steel sheets/tubes bought as is from suppliers: Ecoinvent - market for casting, steel, lost-wax – Global – mapped in purchased goods and services
Thank you!
