Scope 3 emissions associated with electricity consumption

Looking at an inventory on the platform, I think I’m right in saying that the software automatically calculates the T&D emissions and the WTT Generation emissions for any electricity included in Scope 2. I’m wondering why it doesn’t also include (or doesn’t seem to) the WTT T&D emissions too?

I’m wondering if we shouldn’t report both T&D and WTT T&D, just one or the other? I would have expected to add the two WTT factors together (i.e. generation and T&D) and used that to report all WTT emissions.

Looking at the factor used for 2023, I can’t find it anywhere in the linked source file (including if I do the addition above).

Any clarification, gratefully received!

Kev

Hi Kev,

Thanks for asking. And your thinking on the WTT on the platform is correct.

I’'m just not sure I understand your point on WTT T&D. Can you specify or give a numeric example. Also, which EF database are you using?

Kenneth

Thanks Kenneth.
I think Javier and I got to the bottom of this on Friday but the confusion comes in the way the Scope 3 emissions associated with electricity consumption are presented.
I’m using the UK Gov emissions factors which have three separate factors for Scope 3: T&D, WTT Generation and WTT T&D. When looking at the inventory, only two entries are shown associated with each entry under Scope 2 Electricity rather than the three I was expecting. It seems that the reason is that WTT Generation is calculated separately but T&D emissions are the sum of the ‘normal’ T&D and the WTT T&D meaning the overall total is correct but you can’t see the separate elements of the T&D emissions.
I’m satisfied the overall emissions are correct but was just confused by the presentation.
Thanks
Kev
