Including carbon storage in calculation Wood?

I am calculating the emission - purchased goods - for a company that has a lot of wood in its purchased goods.
In the FLAG-documentation I can find that there is a possibility to include the carbon storage/capture of trees in the calculation of the emission.

But I can not figure out how to include this exactly?

In Eco-invent there are many emission factors for the lodging and sawing of wood and for many types of trees. There is a distinction between sustainable forest management and non-sustainable. This choice of emission factor already includes the replacement of the trees, but not the carbon capture if I am correct.

Does somebody knows if indeed it is allowed or when it is allowed to include carbon capture? And if so, how to include this?

Hi Tom,

Yes, under the Land Sector Removal Guidance you can (should) report removals from forestry. You can report them under the land-based categories.

However, the LSRG is not final and the quantification of those removals is one of the pending isssues (you can google on “forestry accounting in LSRG”).

So I would say that you wait for the final guidance of the LSRG on this. If you need something in the meantime, I would say you need to look into academic research on carbon capture in forests.

Thanks, Kenneth. I will look into it.
